Alice L. Durkee's Obituary
Alice L. Durkee, 97, of Inverness, FL., passed away on Saturday, February 23, 2019. Born January 30, 1922 in Keene, New Hampshire, she was the daughter of the late Charles Tupper and Alice May (Johnson) Henry.
Alice was married in January 1942 to John Norman Durkee Sr. 55 years until his passing in 1997 Formerly from Orange Mass.
Together after WWII they purchased a 100 acre farm in Warwick, Mass where they raised 3 Children and developed the Wagon Wheel Campground. Alice taught Sunday school,drove school bus was active in PTA and housekeeper.
After selling campground they moved to Tampa close to her brother and she worked for The Children's Home for 10 years. She moved to Georgia with Daughter and attended Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She was a long time member of Clan McNaughton.
She Loved and cherished her family and friends. She was an inspiration to everyone she knew.
Survivors include her loving sons, John N. (Charlotte) Durkee, Robert V. Durkee; her daughter, Lauren J. (Robert) Dailey; her brother, John Henry; as well as fifteen grandchildren, thirty-three great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at Sunset Memory Gardens, 11005 North US Highway 301, Thonotosassa, FL 33592 on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at 10am. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contribution can be made in Alice’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Society, www.alz.org.
