Gwendolyn M. Wright
October 5, 1953 - March 22, 2022
Gwendolyn M. Wright passed away after a graceful and courageous battle with breast cancer, on March 22, 2022 at her home in the loving arms of her husband of 45 years, Tennyson. Gwen was born in Athens, GA on October 5, 1953, to parents Rev. Hugh Dorsey and Ora Bell Moon. She accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and was baptized at Cross Plains Baptist Church, Gainesville, GA. She remained a devout Christian throughout her life and was a member of Grace Family Church. She made her final home in Lutz, FL in 1985 with her husband, Dr. Tennyson J. Wright. She served as a selfless stay-at-home mother until deciding to continue her education. She earned an undergraduate degree in Women’s Studies in 1991 as well as a master’s degree in Social Work in 1995 from the University of South Florida. She worked in several professional positions until retiring from the Florida Mental Health Institute as a Clinical Social Worker. To those that knew her, all would agree that she loved her family fiercely and served as the bond that held it together. Her laugh was infectious and filled the hearts of those around her and her light brightened every room that she entered. Gwen’s advice was sage, timeless and always put others at ease. Gwen was a model wife, mother, grandmother, sister, mother-in-law and friend. She gave the best hugs that could heal any pain and her silliness could lighten any burden. Gwen was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Ora Moon, siblings, Frederick D. Moon and Wayne Moon. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Dr. Tennyson J. Wright, her daughter Dr. Gwendolyn “Tina” Clayton (Michael), her grandchildren Madison Clayton, Michaela Clayton, Mikey Clayton, Maliyah Clayton and Meghan Clayton; siblings Charlie (Hattie Ann), Nelia “Jim” White, Juanita Daniels and Geraldine (Charlie) as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Her family was truly her pride and joy and she will be eternally missed and remain in their hearts until they are reunited in heaven with God. We are comforted knowing that her love surpasses all and she will watch over us forever. A private and intimate service will be held at Sunset Memory Gardens on Monday, March 28th 2022 where she will be laid to rest. Flowers can be sent to Sunset Funeral Home & Memory Gardens, 11005 N US Highway 301, Thonotosassa, FL 33592. Donations can be made in her name to Moffitt Cancer Center Foundation, [email protected], The University of South Florida, https://www.giving.usf.edu, Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling Program or LifePath Hospice at www.chaptershealth.org. The family would like to extend sincere thanks to Dr. Karim Hanna, Dr. Aixa Soyano, Danielle Flandreau and Susan Vallan for their exceptional care during her illness, Moffitt Cancer Center, and LifePath Hospice for the professional and dignified services they provided.
