Alfonsina G. Pividal
August 29, 1924 - November 18, 2019
Alfonsina Antonia Pividal, a native of Tampa for 95 years, born in Ybor City, has passed away. She follows her husband of 48 years, Laureano Pividal. One of 5 children born to Ramonina and Juan Garcia, both of whom immigrated to this country from Asturias, Spain and Murcia, Spain respectively. She follows her sister, Hilaria Traina, her brother, John Garcia and her half siblings, Virginia Villareal, Stella Baños, Gaspar and Ceferino “Fifi” Garcia. She is survived by her remaining sisters, Ramona Testa-Secca and Julie Fernandez, her children, Lawrence J. Pividal and Patricia R. Pividal, her two grandchildren, Alexandra A. Pividal and Andrew L.C. Pividal, and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. A devoted wife and mother she loved sports, first playing softball in high school, earning the much loved and often shared moniker of “Homerun Al”. Hers was the winning homerun in a championship game accompanied by stellar defense in an era where games were played with no gloves. She would later go on to coach championship teams with her daughter. She especially loved Baseball and was an ardent fan of The Tampa Bay Rays. She was passionate about many things but there was nothing she was more passionate about than family. A devoted daughter and student she was offered a full scholarship to Vassar but because of familial obligations could not pursue her academic dream. Red as she was affectionately called was a natural redhead in her youth who also loved to fish and instilled in her children that same love and appreciation for the sea. The happiest times growing up for both of her children were those spent fishing with our family in Tampa Bay. She will be greatly missed. Funeral Service will be held at Sunset Funeral Home & Memory Gardens, 11005 N. Highway 301, Thonotosassa, FL 33592 on Monday, November 25, 2019 at 2pm. Visitation 1-2pm. Entombment will follow chapel service at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made in Alfonsina’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, www.stjude.org/donate.
